Crich Tramway Classic Motorcycle Day

For the fifth time this summer, the Crich Tramway heritage centre in Derbyshire will welcome old bikes for its annual Classic Motorcycle Day, organised in partnership with the Vincent HRD Owners’ Club. Jon Lambley of the VOC tells us more…

Make a note of the date: Sunday 3rd July 2022, which is when the Classic Motorcycle Day returns to Crich Tramway Village. It’s been described as ‘simply one of the best bike shows in the UK – a proper biker’s event.’The Tramway Museum is situated about five miles south of Matlock; an idyllic setting for an event. The Tramway is a charitable organisation, focused on maintaining this historic museum.

If you’ve never visited this event before, then you must come if you can. The event attracts around 300 motorcycles, from vintage machines to more modern machines of the1990s, all of which must be over 25yrs old. The original concept was to stage a relaxed event for all makes and sizes of machines, where no make has precedence. So far, the feedback suggests that we are achieving this.

After running a limited event in 2021, we hope to get back in full swing this year. Derwent Waste Management are sponsoring the event, for which we are truly grateful. We’ve applied to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for a flypast (third time lucky, we hope!), we’ve booked a live band and of course have numerous trophies for the best machines. These are mainly awarded by our experts from vintage club and specialist publications, but the Best in Show trophy is voted for by the public. So if you do come along, please make sure you vote.

This year we are also hoping that plenty of Kawasaki Z900s attend. It’s the 50th anniversary of the model, so look out for an impressive line-up of Z1s. Entry to the event is free for all riders of classic machines and scooters. Free entry also includes full access to the Tramway Museum and free tram rides all day long.  There is catering on site, a pub and plenty of areas to relax in or go for a walk.

These guys came on Vincents, but any old bike is welcome to join the displays…
