This year’s event will be extra-special for one RC reader (and his/her best chum), who will actually have a chance to meet the past-masters in person. There will be an exclusive buffet reception on the afternoon of Saturday 13th July 2013, with a guest-list as long as your arm and stuffed full of the most famous names from motorcycle racing. And you could win a pair of tickets to attend…

The Festival of 1000 Bikes, in case you’d somehow missed all the publicity, takes place over the weekend of 12th to 14th July 2013. Around 1300 classic motorcycles will take to the track at Mallory Park, with masses of entertainment for the spectators and ‘support crew’ to enjoy, including pre-65 trials, scrambles, sprints, club displays, an autojumble, stunt show, fireworks, Stars on Stage interviews, real ale bar, live music in the evening – and of course the past-masters ride-by which is the highlight of the weekend for many.

This year you’ll be able to see genuine ex-works rotary Norton racers piloted by their original works riders including Nation, Spray and Rymer. Double-trouble hits the track in the shape of Carl Fogarty and Jamie Whitham: back in action, banging fairings no doubt. Look out for a mix of two- and four-stroke flyers from the classic era, real racers and special replicas, ridden by the likes of Cooper, Redman and Rutter. And the star of the show, world champion Wayne Gardener, will ride solo laps on a genuine works Honda 500.
