Plugs & Leads: Classic Bike News

by

What’s new in the world of classic motorcycles? Hard-to-find magneto spares, a chance to win a Triumph Bonneville, a new book about old bikes, the opportunity to show off your classic in Kent, and something only slightly silly…

Magneto shims for the Lucas K2F fitted to so many old British bikes have been unavailable for years. Draganfly Motorcycles tried to acquire the tooling but it was difficult to get hold of. So they found some original components, drew new diagrams and had them made! These are suitable for Ariel, BSA and Triumph twins fitted with either standard or competition magnetos, with options for different end float. If you’re not sure which shim you need, ask before ordering.

It’s time to ride-in to Romney Marsh for the regular show and bikejumble at Hamstreet in Kent on Sunday 29 June. Designed especially for active classic motorcyclists who enjoy using their bikes, not just polishing them, Romney Marsh attracts riders from across the region. There’s no extra charge to enter, just ride in, pay the standard admission fee and park in the designated Ride-In Show area. You might even win one of the £25 cash prizes for Best Classic and Best Post-Classic machines.

A new book about Hesketh motorcycles has been recently published by long-time enthusiast of the marquee, Tim Bolton. In 112 pages, it tells the story of the controversial V-twin from the end of Hesketh’s F1 adventure through conception, prototype models, production, company collapse and rebirth. Then follows the limited production and development under Mick Broom, and the subsequent sale of the business to Paul Sleeman. The author was inspired to produce this volume after his own experience of building and then riding a V1000 in the 1980s.
