The Scottish Classic Motorcycle Show was held on Saturday 14th June. The day dawned and was disappointingly wet. The show is held in the main function room of Ayr Racecourse so that weather was not as big a problem as it could have been.

The exhibits are arranged in rosettes in the centre of the room with further bikes arranged around the edges. These displays ran to more than 100 machines covering all decades up to 2010, including roadgoing and competition machines.

Alex George was the guest of honour and was interviewed several times during the day, whilst mingling with visitors in between those sessions.

When breaks in the weather permitted, three arena rides were held which allowed the showgoers a chance to see, hear and smell various bikes. These ranged from a ‘pack-away’ moped to the three-cylinder racer, ‘Son of Sam’. Everyone was taken care of with plenty of food and beverages – including ice cream!

Facilities were second to none and there were plenty of trophies for various classes to be vied for. My own 1974 Honda CB175 was awarded the class winner for the 1970-75 best foreign motorcycle. All prizes were presented by Alex George.

The Ayr Classic Motorcycle Club hosts this event every year, and run it like a well-oiled machine. I am already looking forward to next year.
